Our Philosophy
FUNdamental Therapy
FUNdamental Therapy was born from my shared experience as a mom and as a pediatric Physical Therapist. As a young mom, I experienced the shock of hearing that there was something wrong with my “perfect baby.” I hadn’t noticed that my baby had Torticollis and Plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) until an experienced Physical Therapist identified it and educated me about it. My pediatrician dismissed it when I brought it to his attention and told me, “ Don’t worry, She’ll grow out of it.” Rather than waiting for things to improve on their own, I chose to follow my gut and to pursue PT treatment for my daughter.
While going through those PT treatments with my daughter, I learned how to treat this condition, how to handle my own baby and how to be a better therapist in the long run. I felt so much “mom guilt” initially, especially being a young PT myself and not picking up on the diagnosis until later. I decided to turn my feelings of guilt into my passion to help other parents care for their children who are dealing with similar issues. Over the years, I have continued to educate myself and hone my skills so I can share my experiences and knowledge with other parents so they can avoid the fear, guilt and distress.
In fact, how many times have you gone to a doctor’s visit and felt that there wasn’t enough time to have all your questions answered or that your concerns weren’t heard? Have you been told to “wait and see” when your gut tells you something is wrong? I have learned to advocate for my own children and I coach my parents how to do the same for theirs. Unfortunately, doctors these days often don’t have the time to allow for the personalized attention needed to address all of parents’ concerns. All too often we rely on “Dr. Google” to have our questions answered or to educate ourselves on what to expect at each stage of development.
It is my mission to bridge the gap for parents. I am passionate about helping parents educate themselves about their babies and children, to help build the connection and support their children to be their best selves. I absolutely love teaching parents about their babies’ development, about handling, positioning, massage, and how to help them gain new skills.
FUNdamental Therapy is designed to give children and their caregivers the direct, personalized time and attention they need to address their concerns. I believe that direct, early intervention and wellness checks can help prevent long-term negative outcomes. FUNdamental Therapy is designed to be just that..FUN! We should have FUN together so that we can build those FUNDAMENTAL skills to set your child on the right path for life.
